The Biological Domain

In behavioural genetics, what does a heritability coefficient (h²) of 0.50 mean?

To what degree is personality shaped by genes? Behavioural genetics — the study of genetic and environmental contributions to individual differences — has produced some of the most robust and surprising findings in all of psychology. Twin studies, adoption studies, and molecular genetic research converge on a striking picture: roughly half the variance in personality is heritable, shared family environment matters surprisingly little in adulthood, and the environment that matters most is the one that is not shared between siblings.

This quiz covers the key concepts, methods, and findings of the biological domain of personality research.
